Sculpture & Projects
Jared Cowan is a sculptor and mixed media artist living in Rockland, Maine. His work is concerned primarily with the relationships between people and advancing technology in television, internet media and medicine. Cowan’s experience is in foundry and installation, but lists past endeavors working with clients with acquired traumatic brain injury as equally influential. Recent work has examined the perils of an advancing ‘medication generation’, blind reliance on rapidly occurring technological development as a crutch, and the synthetic hive mentality created through social media websites.
Paintings & Illustrations
Cowan's paintings often incorporate illustrative elements and have been the consistent understructure for his body of work. Mythology, science, anthropology and general human interaction is examined in purposefully saturated color. Most recently Cowan has used his painted work to encrypt puzzle based themes and elements into his work that will culminate in an interactive project under development.
