David Allen has a tendency to value what others have discarded and left behind. Abandoned spaces and post-industrial detritus are frequently central components in his art, and his work often embodies themes of humanity and our relationship to the environment. Allen’s creative endeavors range from painting, illustration and mixed media, to assemblage, mechanical sculpture, and, occasionally, performance. While painting continues to be a core of his creative practice, it is often incorporated as an element in larger installations or site-specific environments.
David also has a strong community-based practice and background in events organizing, volunteering, and arts administration. He is the progenitor or the Cirque du Poulet arts festival (2001-2004) and has been an active member of Waterfall Arts in Belfast, Maine.
